I have managed to locate my camera lead and can finally unveil this project from about 6 months ago! When my friends and I first booked our trip to the Harry Potter Studios, one of them remarked that I should knit us all some scarves to wear (even though we were going on the August Bank Holiday). Although she was half-joking, I can't resist a challenge...
(After all that, the only photo I have of both of them is rubbish!)
As there are four of us, I would have liked to have done one for each house but no-one wanted to be Slytherin or Hufflepuff so we we ended up with two Gryffindors and two Ravenclaws. I decided to go with the film-version of the Ravenclaw scarf in blue and grey rather than the book version of blue and bronze, simply because I couldn't find a decent colour match for the bronze.
As always, I was pushed for time with this project, so instead of attempting to knit them I went with something I'm more familiar with - crochet. Specifically, the double-crochet-in-between-the-stitches stitch which I'd found so quick and easy to work on my Heidi Blanket (copied from here).
I kept the pattern simple with large blocky stripes rather than the twin thin bands of colour as seen in the films - again for ease and speed. Sadly I ran out of yarn and didn't have the time to order more, so I could only pop a couple of tassles on each corner.
Nevertheless my scarves were a big hit with the girls and the tour guides alike - barely anyone else was dressed up for their visit but we like to rise to the occasion!
Here we are at Hogwarts

I like the fact that you like to rise to the occasion. Good on you, Lucy. The scarves are brilliant. xx
ReplyDeleteOh how hard would I love one of these? VERY HARD. Almost as hard as I love Henry Cavill ;-)
ReplyDeleteWhy doesn't anyone like Hufflepuff though? I'd totally be in that house - wouldn't bother me at all!
How awesome! I would pay good money for the Gryffindor one. xx
ReplyDeleteI know nothing about Harry Potter but I absolutely love those scarves. xxx
ReplyDeleteI have always wanted a Ron Wesley jumper with the big R on the front. But as I only learnt to knit a basic scarf last Christmas I am not upto the challenge of a jumper yet. But a gryffindor scarf is on my winter list to knit all my boys one and I wanted to be in huffle puff so that shall be mine xxx
ReplyDeleteYou all look terrific and how can you go on the tour and not be dressed for the occasion???
You are the cutest, seriously. I love this project. I'm actually due to move to Leavesden so I will be neighbours with the HP studios.

Ha ha - that's fantastic! x
ReplyDeleteoh that is awesome! Very impressed indeed. Would love to spend a weekend living at the HP studios, surely that would be such adventure
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely brilliant! I went to a birthday lunch on Sunday and two little girls had the Gryffindor scarves too- they had also been to the experience and they brought their cuddly owls with them! one of them even looked like Harry Potter with short hair! My academic hood from my degree is Gryffindor colours- claret and gold- I love wearing it for choral evensong and always think of HP! I really want to go to the studios!!
ReplyDeleteLove this. I don't think people dress up enough!
